Easter
The egg is a symbol of life. At one time, Chinese parents sent a red egg to relatives or friends when a baby is born. This was like a good luck card. Many of our Easter cards are shaped like an egg. Students can have fun making an egg-shaped card for Easter greetings. In the Ukraine, eggs were popular gifts to exchange at Easter, and young girls rubbed their cheeks with the red-coloured eggs when they found them to give their cheeks a rosy glow after a long winter.
When is Easter?
Easter is always the first Sunday following the full moon on or after the spring equinox (the first day of spring). The earliest date is March the 22nd and the latest date is in April the 25th
What is Easter?
A celebration of Christ’s arrival from the dead. It is the oldest and holiest Christian festival, the climax and centre of the liturgical year, and the holy day to which all other holy days point. Even denominations that do not strictly follow a liturgical calendar commemorate Easter with tremendous joy and thanks giving.

This otter was abandoned at the side of the side of a road in North – Eastern Scotland luckily this very harmless otter was quickly taken to the vets. This animal is getting very well looked after at the Scottish SPCA fife and luckily doing well and is healthy conservation project as soon as he can feed himself. Its hoped that he will be released when he is about 12 months old - which means he’s got about 10 months to get bigger and stronger.

As you know, just over a year ago we achieved the Food for Life partnership Bronze Award for the quality of the school meals and the whole healthy food culture in our school. We have now been invited to apply for a silver award as recognition of the progress we have made over the past year. This application is going in now and we should know the result by the end of term. We are grateful for the support and encouragement which you give and the whole school commitment to healthy lifestyles was recognised in our Ofsted inspection.
Schools are now required to encourage children to eat healthily in their packed lunches as well in school meals. We understand that all children do, quite naturally, have likes and dislikes but we would encourage you to try to encourage you to try to include as many healthy options as possible. We hope you find the attached leaflet useful. Many further ideas are available on www.nutrition.org.uk and types in lunches and in many newspaper and magazine articles.

In Chess club there are 18 people there, playing against each other each week. Last week was the tournament!
To win the tournament they need to get 3 points to win, if you draw with your partner you both get 2 points but if you lose then you get 1 point.
Mr Hulley is in charge of Chess club and Mr Gibbs is the helper.
The children really enjoy chess and have a lot of fun.
Mr Hulley first shows the class on a magnet board how to do the moves. What they do in Chess club is that they quickly recap on what they have already done he also shows them how to get stale mate and check mate.

On 24th of February we had a visit from Mr Hicklin the gardener to help and get both our gardens up and running.
A few groups went out to have the opportunity to help out in the garden. There was mixed groups throughout the day, two people from each class formed a group and went out to enjoy and work hard in our gardens.
When I went out to help in the garden I helped to plant herbs, I planted basil, chives and chervil with Aiden (yr6), also Jasmine (yr5) helped by writing out all the labels.
We all had a great time.

As you have all heard there is a fitness week at school this week. Football in the community came in and they did us an assault course with us and we all enjoyed it.
We will be having a golf day which is on the 4th of March; it will be Mrs Wass’s class first then it will be Miss Laidlaw’s class, then Mrs Stevenson’s and finally Mrs Simpson’s class.
Yr 6’s will begin their cycling proficiency lessons this Wednesday afternoon.
Year 3 and 4 are playing hockey on Thursday with Sally from the Sport Partnership Federation.
A basketball coach is also coming into school this week to work with each class to play basketball.
We hope that you will enjoy all the activities and all appreciate the thought of keeping fit. It will be a success and will be done again next year.

On the 3rd of March it will be world maths day. Pupils all over the world will be playing each other on maths games. Question sets come under four categories: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In each game, the student has one minute to answer as many of these questions of a random category as they can. The level of difficulty is approximately age appropriate.
When playing a game, the website will attempt to find other players of the same level to match the player against. If no matches are found, the player plays “against” a computer (which answers questions at pace similar to the past history of the student). After each game, the results are shown together with the competitors’ results.
Last year about 10,000,000 pupils signed in
In 2008 at least 5,172,844 pupils signed in
You only get 500 games and then you have to wait for the real game which will be tomorrow and the pupils will come in to the computer suite to play.
Its the forth year of world maths day.
